"The Applied Medical Spanish group hosts a beginner-, intermediate-, and advanced-level medical Spanish elective each year. This is a zero-credit elective that will be recorded on your transcript for satisfactory completion with a pass/fail grading scale. The class meets once a week and is taught by a Spanish-speaking physician or professor. In addition to the classes, students will be assessed through a midterm and final with a Spanish-speaking standardized patient in the SIM center! In previous years, students have gone on a field trip to learn about Cleveland's Latinx history to places such as: MetroHealth Hospital, Supermercado La Plaza, La Panaderia El Caribe, etc. We provide additional ways to improve Spanish language skills, such as a conversation hour over lunch and book clubs in Spanish. We also look for outreach opportunities in the Cleveland area, hoping to pass along real-world opportunities to practice your skills and engage in the community!
