The first point on AMSA's Legislative Agenda outlines our position on health policy advocacy:
1. Quality, Affordable Guaranteed Health Care for All
AMSA supports universal access to high-quality health care for all. Further, AMSA believes the best strategy to realize health care as a right in this country is a publicly funded, privately delivered national single-payer system. In pursuit of this goal, AMSA advocates for:
Case's AMSA Health Policy Committee coordinates the activities of health policy organizations on campus that serve these goals.
AMSA Health Policy Organizations at Case
1) Students for a National Health Program (SNaHP)
What we do: We advocate for universal, single-payer health insurance. Check out our website for more information!
Contact: Join here and contact Trent Chiang (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
2) Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM)
What we do: As a non-profit organization rooted in a global movement of university students, UAEM aims to:
1. Promote access to medicines and medical innovations in low- and middle-income countries by changing norms and practices around academic patenting and licensing, supported by our own independent research
2. Ensure that university medical research meets the needs of people worldwide
3. Empower students to respond to the access and innovation crisis.
Please see UAEM's website here.
Case Western recently received a top-ten score on UAEM's Global Equity & Biomedical Research Report Card - see here for the score and here for a NYT article about the Report Card results!

3) Student Doctors for America (SDFA)
What we do:
1. Increase the number of people with health insurance in North East Ohio
2. Educate people who have health insurance as to how to best use it
We do this by giving talks to people who we think are in underserved populations, like at the Free Clinic and GED classes, and by making materials for medical students to distribute on their clinical activities.
Contact: Jake Goyden (firstname.lastname@example.org) & Carly Dru (email@example.com)
4) Health Systems Research Group (HSRG)
What we do: HSRG provides a unique "laboratory"-like intellectual space for medical students to learn about and contribute to the innovation in health systems ongoing in Cleveland. Professional development, education in skills and methods, and—of course—producing high-quality health systems research and implementation projects are the pillars of the group.
